Every day new computer viruses are created to annoy us and to wreak havoc on our computer systems. Below are ten viruses currently cited as being the most prevalent in terms of being seen the most or in their ability to potentially cause damage. New viruses are created daily. This is by no means an all inclusive list. The best thing you can do is to remain vigilant, keep your anti-virus software updated, and stay aware of the current computer virus threats.

Virus: Trojan.Lodear
A Trojan horse that attempts to download remote files. It will inject a .dll file into the EXPLORER.EXE process causing system instability.

Virus: W32.Beagle.CO@mm
A mass-mailing worm that lowers security settings. It can delete security-related registry sub keys and may block access to security-related websites.

Virus: Backdoor.Zagaban
A Trojan horse that allows the compromised computer to be used as a covert proxy and which may degrade network performance.

Virus:W32/Netsky-P
A mass-mailing worm which spreads by emailing itself to addresses produced from files on the local drives.

Virus: W32/Mytob-GH
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform. Messages sent by this worm will have the subject chosen randomly from a list including titles such as: Notice of account limitation, Email Account Suspension, Security measures, Members Support, Important Notification.

Virus: W32/Mytob-EX
A mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan similar in nature to W32-Mytob-GH. W32/Mytob-EX runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels. This virus spreads by sending itself to email attachments harvested from your email addresses.

Virus: W32/Mytob-AS, Mytob-BE, Mytob-C, and Mytob-ER
This family of worm variations possesses similar characteristics in terms of what they can do. They are mass-mailing worms with backdoor functionality that can be controlled through the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network. Additionally, they can spread through email and through various operating system vulnerabilities such as the LSASS (MS04-011).

Virus: Zafi-D
A mass mailing worm and a peer-to-peer worm which copies itself to the Windows system folder with the filename Norton Update.exe. It can then create a number of files in the Windows system folder with filenames consisting of 8 random characters and a DLL extension. W32/Zafi-D copies itself to folders with names containing share, upload, or music as ICQ 2005a new!.exe or winamp 5.7 new!.exe. W32/Zafi-D will also display a fake error message box with the caption “CRC: 04F6Bh” and the text “Error in packed file!”.

Virus: W32/Netsky-D
A mass-mailing worm with IRC backdoor functionality which can also infect computers vulnerable to the LSASS (MS04-011) exploit.

Virus:W32/Zafi-B
A peer-to-peer (P2P) and email worm that will copy itself to the Windows system folder as a randomly named EXE file. This worm will test for the presence of an internet connection by attempting to connect to www.google.com or www.microsoft.com. A bilingual, worm with an attached Hungarian political text message box which translates to “We demand that the government accommodates the homeless, tightens up the penal code and VOTES FOR THE DEATH PENALTY to cut down the increasing crime. Jun. 2004, Pécs (SNAF Team)”

This article aims to help everyone in preventing their computers from being infected with a virus or spyware as well as understand the dangers of not protecting your system from such thing which could lead to data lost and the like. Listed here are some simple tips and advices that you can follow to prevent any virus infection to your computer.Situation: You just got a new Laptop that has awesome of power and you were really lucky for getting it at very cheap price. Once your new laptop or pc, arrived you instantly updated all the programs necessary for your system. After deleting your previous security software you decided to take a break by going outside or got busy with something. But someone decided to check out your new machine and tried it with out notifying you. That someone decided that it might be ok to use your laptop to search online for something maybe to play porn, watch movies, search something or even download files from the internet. That is where your troubles will usually begin. Without clicking on anything else that someone might already infected your brand new machine with a Trojan, spyware or viruses. Catching Trojan, spyware or any kind of viruses online can be really this simple. Sometimes it only take about 30 seconds online for your computer or laptop to get infected especially if you do not have any kind of protection for your computer. You can easily buy a computer security program to any computer parts retailer store.Basic security tips1. Prevention is better than cure. Preventing this from happening to you is way much better than suffering from data loss or more once your computer or laptop get infected. Today, it is advisable to get a security program that has both anti-spyware protection and anti-virus protection. 2. It is also a nice idea to check your security program if it has a good root kit scanner. 3. Another important thing you should remember is to check if the security program that you bought provides active protection. Although there are many free security software out there are only a few who offer this kind of feature so do not forget to do your homework. You can also try to ask someone from the store where you bough the software if there is no available information on the package or on the website of the product. 4. Create a limited computer account for your kids that way your kids wont be able to install any kind of software program to your computer. Kids downloading free programs and falling for basic scams is the usual cause for computer virus infections.5. Educate. Educate everyone who use your computer about safe computing habits so they will also know what are the things they need to do and should not do. A simple scan of USB drive can save your computer from being infected. To sum it up you need to take caution whenever you go online or want to transfer files from a device to your computer. Preventive measures and good security client is your best defense from any kind of computer Trojan or viruses. Always remember to always practice safe web surfing and computing especially if you want to prolong the life of your computer.

The win32/adware.virtumonde virus is a Trojan horse virus which is annoying and generally a nightmare to get rid of. Most people will experience a virus at some point in their life but this one, I have to say, is one of the worst there is. I say that because of its annoyance rather than it completely destroying your computer.

What is it?

win32/adware.virtumonde virus (or Vundo) is a Trojan horse virus which is said to infect your system by going through Java. For those of you who don’t know much about computers, don’t worry it’s not Java that is the problem, so don’t get carried away with yourself and delete Java! The virus usually attaches to the system using bogus Browser Helper Objects (BHO) and DLL files attached to Winlogon and Explorer.exe. This can cause a great deal of trouble and is rather frustrating. After you review the material presented below, follow up on my advice to ensure your computer’s safety.

Have I got it?

Most computer viruses act just as human viruses hat can make you sick. It first starts off with symptoms and the symptoms for the Vundo virus are multiple pop ups. When you have Vundo, it causes the infected computer to use the web browser to trigger pop up advertisements You will quickly be able to recognize them because they usually claim to have software which will detect viruses on your computer and will “fix” your computer – when obviously they won’t. This is a scheme to either get you to buy their software, or a way for you to activate more viruses.

You also may notice pop ups on your computer when you start windows, usually saying something about DLL files (with bizarre names) you will notice that these files are in the Windows/System32 directory and pop up when your computer starts, after you log on.

How to get rid of it?

Like most viruses, fortunately there is a way to get rid of it. Obviously, having a good anti-virus program will eliminate the need to even ask this question but if you are unaware of the best packages then I suggest, AVG (which is a free tool to get rid of spyware and viruses), Norton Anti-Virus and MacAfee. All these software packages are available in the shops and on the web. AVG is only available on the web but is easy to find – simply “Google” AVG and it should be available for download from somewhere.

If this doesn’t immediately work then you may need to restart your computer in safe mode and run the virus scan again. Sometimes these viruses hide quite well. Once you’re all sorted make sure you run your virus protection regularly and if you have a software package which has real time protection – use it. There are many types of viruses around at the moment and it is easy to get one when you are not protected. Using anti-virus software with regular updates and online real time protection is the best way to stay safe online in today’s world.

This article is based on my own user experience of free and paid Internet security software. The free software I used consists of Sygate firewall, AVG antivirus, Ad-Aware Free Edition, Spyware Doctor and SpyBot Search & Destroy in Windows XP operating system. The paid sofware in this case is Norton Internet Security 2009 in Windows Vista operating system.

You can protect your pc against different security threats prowling on the cyberspace by using free tools. The protection these programs offer is quite good. You may wonder why an earth to use so many spyware scanners? The answer to this question is simple. One scanner was not able to detect all threats, so it was appropriate to use several. All these spyware and virus detection and removal tools worked well and did their mission. Spyware Doctor is worth to mention, because it was the only program to detect register files infection. This phenomena reduced the performance of my computer remarkably, if it appeared.

When I bought a new computer, I decided to purchase Norton Internet Security 2009. The brand name was familiar to me previously, because as a Yahoo mail user I happened to know that Yahoo scans all attachments by using Norton Antivirus. So I thought it was a good choice. I have now used Norton Internet Security 2008 and 2009 over one year. I was able to upgrade to the new version for free. After I started to use the 2009 version, I noticed that it was more user friendly and faster than the 2008 version. Many times when I used the older version I wondered, why I have to do so many clicks in order to get my database updated. Now in this version of 2009 updating is easy and automatic as well as scanning.

The free tools I used before detected several times all kinds of spyware, adware and viruses on my computer. It seemed that there were certain “security holes” in this system through which malware was able to access into the computer. In addition, it took time to scan the computer by using several different scanners. Norton Internet Security 2009 provides more comprehensive protection against all kinds of security threats. It has antivirus, spyware protection, two-way firewall, intrusion prevention, operating system and application protection as well as web site authentication. Based on my experience, I can say that Norton Internet Security 2009 has provided a very good protection and it has kept my computer clean. It has not even detected any serious infections.
